New Bloomfield student, soldier killed in accident

Spc. Charles P. McClure, who attended elementary and middle school in New Bloomfield, was killed May 2 in a vehicular accident while serving in the Army in Kuwait. He was 21.

McClure was born Jan. 8, 1992 in Neosho, to Andy McClure and Karrie Sandfort Gladden. He moved around as a child, growing up in the Plato and Cabool areas and attending the New Bloomfield school district for a few years..

Current New Bloomfield Assistant Principal Susan Dudley said school records showed he left the district in the eighth grade, and the yearbook noted he was in the history club.

"I remember him as kind of quiet; just your typical kid," said Joellyn Caudle, a middle school social studies teacher who remembered McClure through summer classes. "He had his circle of friends and just did his own thing."
