Darren Masek told his team before the game what it was going to take.
For the No. 5 seed Fulton Hornets to move past the top-seeded Kirksville Tigers and into the Class 4, District 8 title game, they'd have to pitch well, hit well and field the ball cleanly.
"We outplayed Kirksville in two-of-three phases," Masek said. "We out-hit them and we outpitched them; we simply just made too many mistakes tonight to beat a good team.
"We had lots of opportunities and we lost a tough one."
The Hornets allowed three unearned runs, ultimately the difference in a 7-5 season-ending loss to the Tigers in the District 8 semifinals early Monday night at the high school athletic complex.
