Small fire extinguished at Fulton prison Wednesday

Fulton firemen extinguished a small fire early Wednesday at the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center, 1393 Highway O near Fulton.

Fulton Fire Chief Dean Buffington said no one was injured and the blaze was brought under control quickly.

Buffington said the fire, which was reported at 12:43 a.m. Wednesday, was located in Housing Unit No. 6 at the state prison.

Because of security precautions, Buffington said there are brief delays for firemen and fire trucks to enter and exit the state prison facility. For this reason, not all available firemen are dispatched to fires at the prison in order to not delay coverage to other areas of the city.
