Drifting snow complicates county road clearing

An early spring snowstorm hit Callaway County Sunday, dumping up to 8 inches of snow in some areas.

With the ground warmed from 50 degree temperatures on Saturday, some of the snow melted.

But there was plenty of snow remaining that caused Callaway County road crews to work around the clock from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to clear snow-clogged county roads. Drifting and some icing caused county crews to resume their work on Monday.

All Callaway County schools were closed on Monday. They included Fulton Public Schools, Kingdom Christian Academy, New Bloomfield R-3, North Callaway R-1 at Kingdom City, and South Callaway R-2 at Mokane.

The two elementary schools in Holts Summit were also closed because Jefferson City Public Schools are on a spring break this week Monday through Friday.

The Callaway Senior Center in Fulton was closed along with Callaway Head Start.
