Deciding to buy Fulton's Curves gym after more than 13 years working full-time at Crane's Country Store was about more than Carolyn Bernicky's checkbook health; it was about her physical well-being, too.

The Calwood native said her career change came when her sister, who had been a Curves member for a few years, learned that the gym was up for sale.

"Both of my parents have had some health issues, and well, I thought it's time to do some preventative things for myself," said Bernicky. "I'm hoping it's a great business opportunity; it's been an adventure for me."

The Fulton Curves' owner since Jan. 30, Bernicky took the Fulton location over from longtime owner Suzanne O'Conner. Bernicky plans to be more directly involved in her gym, working as the gym's manager and working out alongside her approximately 25 customers in an effort to get to know them.
