The 911 emergency radio dispatching service that Callaway County provides to local police, fire and ambulance services located in the county has a new name: Callaway County Joint Communications Center.
Callaway County Presiding Commissioner Gary Jungermann said Friday the name change came as one of many recommendations from a consultant the county hired to evaluate the emergency dispatching service.
"Some people were referring to the service as the Emergency Operations Center," Jungermann said. "That technically isn't correct. Michelle Kidwell is in charge of our Emergency Operations Center that is activated in the same building during storms or other emergencies. This new name of Callaway County Joint Communications Center is a way of branding the 911 call center for the specific emergency dispatching service it provides."
