Storm causes fire in Summit Villa Lifecare

None hurt in assisted living home blaze, flames contained to attic

Another round of severe weather swept through Callaway County Sunday afternoon, this time causing a small fire in a Holts Summit assisted living home.

The Holts Summit Fire Protection District responded to a call at 5 p.m. about a lightning strike and visible smoke at Summit Villa Lifecare. Upon arriving, dispatched unites found a fire in the attic of the building.

The fire was contained to a small portion of the attic and fully extinguished. Damage was limited to the attic and a single resident's room at the rear of the building. The resident was not in the room at the time of the strike.

Along with the Holts Summit Fire Department Auxiliary, Callaway County Ambulance District, Holts Summit Police Department New Bloomfield, Central Callaway and South Callaway Fire Protection Districts and Summit Villa staff, responders assisted in evacuation, care and safety of the approximately 50 Summit Villa residents and employees present in the building. There were no reported injuries and everyone was accounted for.
