CASA added as United Way agency for 2014

Agency helps provide mentors, advocates for children in foster system

The Callaway County United Way has announced it will be partnering with a new agency for the 2014 funding year.

Heart of Missouri Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is now one of 14 agencies that will receive funding from the United Way from their Fall 2013 campaign, slated to kick off Sept. 27 in the Walmart parking lot.

CASA is a volunteer organization that partners citizens as officers of the court to partner with children in abuse and neglect cases in the 13th Judicial Circuit, which covers Boone and Callaway Counties. They work with children throughout the foster system and court process, and CASA recently instated about six volunteers from Callaway.

"We were very impressed with the CASA application for funding, as well as their presentation at our hearings earlier last month," United Way Board President Glenn Harris stated in a press release. "This is an agency that is going to greatly benefit children and families in Callaway County."
