Moving the 4-H and FFA competition away from the Callaway County Fair and holding the first Callaway Youth Expo at the Auxvasse Lions Club Park was a big success, organizers said Saturday on the last day of the event.
Carson Humphreys, expo chairman, said the fair “was a huge success. I have had overwhelming favorable comments from everyone.”
Humphreys said the crowds were good and there has been strong support generated throughout the county in behalf of the event.
Humphreys said the event was free with no gate charge.
Humphreys said he expects the event to remain at Auxvasse again next year. “But of course it is up to the board to decide that issue. The board will meet at the end of the month. Everyone plans to discuss the event and decide on how to make it even better next year.”
The atmosphere at the expo, Humphreys said, was friendly to everyone.
“All of the events are designed for the kids and everyone seems to like that aspect. Many of the older people discussed how it was when the county competition was here several years ago,” Humphreys said.
Pam Heimericks, representing Callaway County 4-H Clubs, agreed the expo was highly successful.
