United Way meets fundraising goal in record-setting year

The temperature is supposed to be in the mid-20s this afternoon, but one thermometer in Fulton is going to burst.

In a fundraising record, the Callaway County United Way has met their $261,000 fall campaign goal following the tallying of some remaining employee campaigns. United Way board members and agency representatives will hold a small reception where they fill in the remainder of the thermometer tallying progress toward their goal 12:15 p.m. today in front of the Callaway County Courthouse.

Last year's goal took until mid-June to meet, and was $1,000 less than this campaign's total.

"I would say this is definitely a record," said CCUW Executive Director Kathy Richey Liddle. "We're definitely celebrating.

"It's a relief for me, most definitely. Usually it drug out until spring and I've already started working on the fall campaign."
