KINGDOM CITY — The North Callaway Ladybirds had a full two weeks of vacation to think about their lost opportunity.
North Callaway — ranked No. 5 in Class 3 — had a lead over state-ranked Silex at home with 5 minutes to go but ended up on the short side of a 59-53 Eastern Missouri Conference loss on Dec. 17.
With that behind them and starting at another state-ranked visitor — the Hermann Lady Bearcats — the Ladybirds almost had a similar letdown.
Almost.
North Callaway survived a late rally from Hermann and dispatched the second-ranked Lady Bearcats 48-43 on Thursday night.
