New Bloomfield police chief resigns

New Bloomfield Police Chief John Hatfield has resigned, effective at the end of the month.

“As far as I am concerned,” said New Bloomfield Mayor Michael Lowe Sr., “John is the best police chief we have ever had. All of the aldermen have been happy with him and he has done a tremendous job over the years. He also has brought in high quality people to work in the police department.”

Lowe said any qualified law enforcement officer wanting to apply for the position is welcome to do so. He said one officer in the department already has indicated an interest in the position.

Lowe said the police chief’s job is a paid position for 20 hours a week. “John donated more of his own time to the job,” Lowe said.
