A Holts Summit home is a total loss after a fire started in the attic early Tuesday morning, Holts Summit Fire Protection District officials said.

Holts Summit firefighters responded to the home at 2:02 a.m. in the 200 block of West Simon Boulevard, where they found heavy fire showing from the roof.

Assistant Fire Chief Allen Wehmeyer said firefighters determined there were no occupants in the home and entered to attempt to contain the fire, but encountered heavy flames in the attic.

Firefighters retreated outside to douse the home with water. With the assistance of manpower from the New Bloomfield Fire Department, Wehmeyer said they brought the fire under control within 45 minutes, but were dealing with the fire for hours later.

"It was beyond repair," said Wehmeyer. "A total loss."
