Fulton Police say mother shot at son during dispute last night

The Fulton Police Department responded to the area of Essex Drive and Canterbury Drive last night around 1 a.m. after police allege Laura Perkins, 46 of Fulton, shot at her son during an argument.

The shots never hit the son, who Fulton Police Detective Dal Hedges said is about 24, and there were no other injuries. One shot hit a window, which caused property damage - one of the seven charges Perkins is now facing.

Hedges said there is an investigation to discover how the dispute started, and it has not yet been determined how many shots were fired.

Perkins is facing the following charges:

•Armed criminal action, which is an unclassified felony. A felony carries a sentencing of at least one year.

•Unlawful use of a weapon, which is a class D felony and carries a sentencing between one and four years.

•Two charges of possession of a controlled substance (marijuana). A charge of possession of a controlled substance is a class C felony, carrying a sentence between one and seven years.

•Possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana - a misdemeanor. Misdemeanors carry a sentence of less than one year.

•Unlawful use of drug paraphernalia - a class A misdemeanor, which does not exceed one year of sentencing.

Perkins is being held in Callaway County Jail on $50,000 bond. No hearings or trials have been scheduled, according to Missouri case.net.
