Mobile home addition burns in Millersburg fire Thursday

An addition to a mobile home caught fire here Thursday night, leaving three adult residents temporarily without a place to stay.

North Callaway Fire Protection District Chief Lana Karhoff told the Fulton Sun that her department was dispatched around 6:15 p.m. to respond to a mobile home in Callaway County on Old Highway 40 north of Millersburg.

"They had built a room to a mobile home, and that room is what caught fire," Karhoff said. "The fire tried to come into the rest of the trailer, and we were able to stop it."

Karhoff said the addition was destroyed and there was some fire damage to the mobile home itself, but that the home was not a total loss.

The Millersburg Fire Department assisted with the fire response.

One adult woman was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, but was later released.

A press release from the American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter states two Callaway County volunteers met Friday afternoon with the home residents, at which point they were provided with financial assistance for food, clothing and shoes, as well as personal hygiene kits and referrals to other agencies.

They are staying with relatives.
