Jaycees to bring circus to fairgrounds

The 2013 Kingdom of Callaway County Fair is in the books, but the Fulton Jaycees didn't have too much time to rest after the oftentimes hectic event before organizing a different kind of circus.

The Fulton Jaycees will be hosting the Carson and Barnes Circus to the fairgrounds Sunday, Sept. 15. The family-owned bigtop will set up and host two shows, at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., with a portion of the proceeds going to the Jaycees.

Jaycees member Martha McGrath said the circus contacted her, looking for a host venue to do a show in Fulton. McGrath and circus officials both agreed the fairgrounds would be "a great place to do it."

"For us, it's a community event," McGrath said. "We're not looking to make a profit; if we do, it's great, but if not, that's fine too. We just wanted to do something else at the fairgrounds in the fall for families to bring their kids."
