Community Health Center to hold free dental screenings, physicals

Back-to-school events held as part of national clinic week

Uninsured and underinsured children in Callaway County will have a chance to go back to school this year with a better bill of health.

In observation of National Health Center Week Aug. 12-16, the Community Health Center of Central Missouri (CHCCM) will hold free dental screenings and back-to-school physicals at the Fulton clinic, 561 Commons Drive.

The dental screenings will be 8-9 a.m. Aug. 12 and 14, while the physicals will run 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 16. Walk-ins are welcome for dental screenings, but appointments must be made for the physicals and are preferred for the screenings due to limited spaces available.

The screenings are free for uninsured children; insured children and families will be billed. A limited number of spaces exist. Free lunch boxes, backpacks and other items are also available.

Community Health Center Outreach coordinator Lorna Cockrum said CHCCM will join more than 22 other centers across the state in holding screenings and other events.

"We want to make awareness of our local health centers in the community and the important work they do," Cockrum said. "It's a reminder of healthy habits and things to check on the importance of our health."
