A record amount of unwanted drugs were collected Saturday during the National Drug Take Back effort Saturday in Fulton and Auxvasse.

Sgt. Clay Chism of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office reported more than 300 pounds of unwanted drugs were turned in by Callaway County residents at the two locations.

Chism said in Fulton 292 pounds of unwanted drugs were collected at Callaway County Water District No. 2 office in Fulton.

At the Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Auxvasse 16 pounds of unneeded medications were collected, he said.

The Auxvasse event was hosted by the Auxvasse Police Department, the Callaway County Sheriff's Office and the Auxvasse Lions Club.

"By far," Chism said, "the April 27 collections had the highest turnout ever experienced by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office."
