New phone scam hits Fulton area

A telephone scam seeking personal information from someone posing as a Microsoft Windows computer technician has hit the Fulton area, the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Sgt. Clay Chism of the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said a Fulton area resident reported receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be from “Windows Help and Support,” a reference to the common Microsoft Windows computer program used by many personal computer owners.

The caller claimed a virus had been found on a computer owned by the person called.
