Local Ducks Unlimited chapter to host casino fundraiser

Ducks Unlimited of Callaway County will be hosting a Casino Night fundraiser Oct. 13 in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fulton.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with games starting at 7. Tickets are $35 for adults, $60 per couple, $15 per child and $250 for sponsors, which includes eight admission tickets. Patrons can enjoy a night of appetizers, Big Six wheel, blackjack, craps, roulette and other games of chance while competing for a variety of prizes.

Ducks Unlimited area chairman Wayne Plybon said the wetlands conservation agency wanted to hold an event that was somewhat different from their typical banquet and silent auction fundraisers.

"We were just hashing around ideas, and St. Peters had recently done a (casino) fundraiser and used the company we're using, and was very successful with it," said Plybon.

The Oct. 13 event marks Ducks Unlimited's first Casino Night. Plybon said the event would return "bigger and better" in years to come if it proves successful.

In addition to gambling for tickets to spend on prizes, patrons can participate in a raffle and silent auction for many items, including a top-of-the-line shotgun.

"I's Ducks Unlimited's 75th anniversary, so we're auctioning an anniversary edition engraved Browning shotgun," said Plybon. "That's the big ticket item this year; people have been traveling around the state trying to buy these when they're auctioned because they have collector's value."
