United Way sweepstakes returns as fall campaign kicks off

The Callaway County United Way has announced their second annual Live United Sweepstakes. The program offers an opportunity for every donor to their campaign to win one of many prizes, including computers, gift cards and utility credits.

The sweepstakes returns from last year, when the CCUW implemented it to encourage more people to donate, even if it was only a small amount.

"It was very successful," said Glenn Harris, CCUW board president.

"We had a good campaign last year, and we really think that the sweepstakes had to do with that. Even just giving a dollar enters you, and from talking to folks about that, I think it pushed people to give who hadn't in the past."

The sweepstakes begins ahead of the formal campaign kickoff Sept. 28 with the Radiothon in the Walmart parking lot. This year's campaign goal of $261,000 was increased by $1,000 from last year's goal, but Harris said he felt the sweepstakes and other events would help meet expectations.

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
