Callaway chamber to host candidate forums

Crimestoppers, newspaper to put focus on sheriff candidates

Callaway County residents will have the opportunity to meet - and question - their local candidates in a series of upcoming election forums.

The Kingdom of Callaway Chamber of Commerce is hosting two candidate forums in Fulton and Holts Summit featuring 12 candidates for local office, while Callaway County Crimestoppers and The Fulton Sun will be hosting a forum focusing on the sheriff's race.

"The board just feels it's extremely important for people to see the candidates and hear them before they make their decisions," said chamber director Nancy Lewis.

KRCG News anchor Dick Preston will host both of the chamber's forums, with the Fulton forum to be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the Callaway Senior Center and the Holts Summit forum to be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 at the Holts Summit Civic Center.

The forums will start with a meet and greet at 6:30 p.m. followed by a brief introduction of the candidates at 7 p.m. Each group of candidates then will have two questions, with two minutes to answer each question. If there is time left at the end of the evening, Lewis said there also will be a question-and-answer period.
