Westminster Symposium begins Tuesday

Speakers will discuss influence of religion

Each year Westminster College dismisses classes for two days and brings the entire campus together to hear nationally-known speakers discuss vital national issues at the annual Westminster Symposium.

This year the subject is the “Religious Experience Global Society.” Advocates of religion and atheism have been scheduled as speakers. Religion in education as well as Christianity and Islamic influences on the idea of a just war will be discussed along with Sikh militancy and non violence. Muslims in Europe is another topic.

All presentations are free and open to the public.

The man who taught the world’s first environmental ethics course and a consultant for Fortune 500 companies are two of the national experts to be featured next week.

The extensive symposium will be on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Speakers will include Dr. J. Baird Callicott, author of the Encyclopedia of Environmental Ethics and Philosophy, and Dr. David Shaner, who has consulted for high profile companies such as Gillette, Duracell, Frito-Lay and Bic Pens.
