Holts Summit A Lake Mykee resident Monday night informed the Holts Summit Board of Aldermen he plans to lead a petition effort asking for a vote on the issue of involuntary annexation by Holts Summit of Lake Mykee.
Marc Haycook of Lake Mykee said he has discussed the current situation with numerous Lake Mykee residents and he believes about 75 percent of them would favor annexation of Lake Mykee by Holts Summit.
Haycook said two main factors are driving the desire of many Lake Mykee residents to be annexed by Holts Summit. Those factors are Lake Mykee’s aging and expensive sewer lagoon system and the desire to have a local police department for security purposes.
Haycook said some calls by residents to the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department draw no response and others require a wait of 45 minutes before a deputy appears.
Haycook emphasized he was speaking only as a resident of Lake Mykee and not in behalf of either the town council or the Lake Mykee homeowners association.
“I’d like to see it happen and I think there is interest by the Holts Summit Board of Aldermen to place the issue on the ballot at some point,” said Holts Summit Mayor Brian Fitzpatrick.

You all have enough problems in Holts Summit without taking on Lake Mykee. Good luck to Lake Mykee on police protection, they couldn't even take care of Holts Summit. And I think HS has enough to annex in their own burg. You need to annex that stye on South Summit Drive, the place looks like pigs live there. We moved out of the area because of poor police protection, awful planning and zoning (ratty cars parked everywhere) and basically an attitude of you are on your own. (Oh let me clarify, they can take care of the bridge and the four lane but nothing else). You might want to rethink this Lake Mykee.

I agree, take care of the problems in Holts Summit first before trying to take on more. A suggestion would be maybe run traffic on other street rather then just on Hwy 54. Their is more to Holts Summit then just Hwy 54 and I'm sure the citizens would like to see the patrol cars in other locations then just the Hwy. Haycook might just be a resident of Lake MyKee but he failed to mention that he is also with the Holts Summit Police Department. **Haycook said some calls by residents to the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department draw no response and others require a wait of 45 minutes before a deputy appears.** I think that is a bias statement since Haycook is with the Holts Summit Police Department and Haycook wants the Holts Summit Police Department to take over. Lets see what the great Mayor Brian Fitzpatrick does with all of this. I don't see where he is doing a great job handling the town of Holts Summit much less trying to take on more.

Haycook says he is doing this only as a residence. Why don't you mention you are with the Holts Summit Police Dept. or should I say somewhat, Couldn't cut it as a cop so you just do their public speaking and like always you stick your foot in your mouth. I still say I stopped and since you didn't write me a ticket, I think you know you were wrong.
I must be one of the 25% because I don't want the speed trap cops of Holts Summit here. If they did more then just write tickets, that would be another thing. When I did have a problem while at a gas station in HS. a sheriff stopped and made the ex settle down until a HS officer could get there which was another 10 minutes and I still have not heard back from that officer.

I thinks it's funny how some people like to post here anonymously without knowing the facts. It's obvious the above people who posted were not at the meeting as I mentioned my relationship with the city while talking to the board. It's also obvious they don't live in Lake MyKee either because they would understand the problems due to the lack of law enforcement in the area. The Sheriff's department does the best they can, but they are seriously understaffed for the size of the county.
