South Callaway Lady Bulldogs head coach Dave Odneal had just one thought in his head when he saw a fourth-inning blast from Palmyra senior catcher Alexis Van Nostrand sail down the left field line.
"I was wishing it foul, but it looked like it went just fair over the foul pole," Odneal said. "It was close. She hit it pretty close."
Odneal's wish, though, went unheard. Van Nostrand's solo home run in the bottom of the fourth was one of the Lady Panthers' two runs in the inning. That ended up being all the scoring defending state champion Palmyra would need its 2-1 win over the Lady Bulldogs in the Class 2 quarterfinals.
