Hobbled Hornets ready for 54 Bowl battle with Bulldogs

Sam Christensen attempted two passes for the Fulton Hornets in last week's 47-21 North Central Missouri Conference loss at the Boonville Pirates.

And there's surely one throw the sophomore quarterback would like back.

Christensen overshot a wide-open receiver, sophomore Devin Gibson, on a first-and-10 from Boonville's 43-yard line in the second quarter. If Christensen had connected, it would have allowed Gibson to walk in the end zone and bring the Hornets within a two-point conversion of tying the Pirates.

"I was a little jittery," Christensen recalled during Thursday's walk-through practice at Robert E. Fisher Jr. Stadium. "I had two guys coming toward me so I wanted to just get it out of there."

Christensen will have all throws he wants tonight. He'll get the start in place of junior Joe Schlemeier when the Hornets host the NCMC rival Mexico Bulldogs in the annual Highway 54 Bowl. Kickoff is at 7.
