Sheriff's office identifies suspect in New Bloomfield bank robbery

Subject believed to be 'on the run'

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office is on the hunt for a Jefferson City man they believe to be responsible for the robbery of Bank Star One in New Bloomfield on Saturday.

A Callaway County judge issued a warrant Wednesday afternoon for Gary Leland Coleman, 49, of Jefferson City. Coleman is wanted on $30,000 bond on a charge of second-degree robbery in connection with the New Bloomfield case.

"Basically, since the airing of the still images and the security video (from the robbery), we have received a number of tips believing the identity of the suspect to be Mr. Coleman," Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane said. "After further investigation by the department, we do believe him to be our suspect."

He said Callaway investigators also have received information that Coleman is "out of the state, and on the run," prompting Crane to submit Coleman's information to the national database.

According to Crane, Coleman has two prior felony convictions: One in 1993 in Boone County for possession of a controlled substance and one in 1999 for forgery, also out of Boone County.
