Fulton Fire Department personnel extinguish a blaze beneath a ramp at Fulton Skate Park Thursday afternoon.

The Fulton Fire Department responded to a call around 3:36 p.m. Thursday to a ramp at Fulton Skate Park that had caught fire.

Fire personnel arrived to find the underside of a ramp at the park involved in a blaze. Assistant Chief Kevin Coffelt said the fire was put out in about two minutes using about 150 gallons of water from a pre-attached hose, but that the ramp sustained "a lot of damage."

"I'd say probably the ramp is out of service," said Coffelt. "It's burned pretty good."

The call came in when Fulton Animal Control worker Alvin Maddox noticed a teenaged youth running from the flaming ramp. Fulton fire and police and fire officials upon arrival spoke with a middle school-aged student who was walking past the park, observed the fire and attempted to run to douse the flames with water.

The ramp was cordoned off, but Fulton Parks and Recreation director Clay Caswell said it would likely be repaired and back in service by next week.
