Auxvasse considers move to wireless water meters

The bulk of discussion at Auxvasse's city council meeting Tuesday centered around a presentation from Schulte Supply, a company from which the City of Auxvasse is considering purchasing wireless upgrades to the meter reading system.

John Schulte, Schulte Supply owner, gave a presentation to the aldermen regarding the wireless meters. Rather than requiring a city utility worker to get out and examine each meter, the wireless meters would be able to transmit accurate readings wirelessly to a handheld reading device.

This would save city workers time that could be used to work on other projects. Depending on population density and the type of equipment purchased, Schulte said "you could walk out of the building and be reading 250 meters."

The devices would also keep a log of the past 96 days of water usage, which could would help the city settle disputes with utility customers.
