Tax statements mailed

Callaway County Collector Pam J. Oestreich said Monday county real estate and property tax bills have been mailed.

On Nov. 1 Oestreich said a computer glitch delayed mailing of the bills this year. "Taxpayers should be receiving them during the next two days," Oestreich said.

The collector said payments are due on or before Dec. 31 of this year for all county and school real estate and personal property taxes.

Taxes become delinquent on Jan. 1, 2013, Oestreich said, and additional interest and penalties will be due with any payment received after Dec. 31.

"We do honor the postmark on your payment," Oestreich said. "If you are paying by mail, be sure to check your local post office about their holiday hours to make sure you get your letter postmarked before Jan. 1. A Dec. 31st postmark is the latest that will be accepted without a penalty."

For the convenience of taxpayers, Oestreich also has a drop box on the north side of the Callaway County Courthouse. "You can drop your payment any time of day on or before midnight on Dec. 31 and we will mail you a paid receipt after the payment is processed," she said.
