Rep. Jeanie Riddle, R-Mokane, checks election results Tuesday night on her computer during the Republican election watch rally in Fulton. Riddle easily defeated Democrat challerger Pam Murray of Holts Summit.

In a strong victory over challenger Pam Murray, Jeanie Riddle will be the first representative for the new 49th District of the Missouri House of Representatives.

In a general election in which many of the local races resulted in resounding wins for the Republican candidates, Republican incumbent Riddle took 70.12 percent of the vote, compared to Democratic candidate Murray's 29.74 percent. Those are the numbers according to final unofficial summary report from the Callaway County Clerk's Office.

Riddle said she takes that strong vote of confidence seriously and is looking forward to representing Callaway County for the next two years.

"This is very humbling and I don't take the votes lightly. ... They have entrusted me to carry their voice," Riddle said. "It makes me know I have to work that much harder. The best I can do is try to serve my constituents well."

A former educator with South Callaway R-II Schools, Riddle already has served two terms with the Missouri House. That time has included a stint as the assistant majority floor leader and serving as chairperson of the House Rules Committee.

She said she wanted to serve for a third term because with the experience she has gained over her past two terms, "I'm at a position when I am able to accomplish good things for my constituents and for Missouri."

Riddle attributed a good amount of her success to her constant communication with other area residents and leaders.
