Two injured seriously in county during Memorial Day weekend

Two people were injured seriously in separate Callaway County accidents during the Memorial Day weekend.

An Auxvasse youngster was injured seriously Monday when a car driven by another 15-year-old Auxvasse youngster overturned.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Travis L. Mewes, 15, Auxvasse, was driving eastbound in a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier on County Road 260 west of Old U.S. 54 at 12:30 a.m. Monday when a passenger in the in the vehicle, Cameron M. McCoy, 17, Auxvasse, suddenly applied the emergency brake, causing the vehicle to travel off the left side of the road and overturn.

The patrol reported McCoy was injured seriously and was transported by the Callaway County Ambulance Service to University Hospital in Columbia.

Neither the driver nor the passenger wore a seat belt at the time of the accident, and the vehicle was demolished, the patrol reported.

On Saturday evening the patrol reported a passenger on an ATV was injured when she fell off of an all-terrain vehicle.

The accident occurred in Callaway County, the patrol reported, at 7:20 p.m. Saturday on Wildwood Estates, about 2.6 miles north of Route O.

The patrol reported Thomas N. Moran, 35, St. Charles, was driving a 2004 Honda Rancher ATV with a passenger on the ATV, Becky L. Moran, 43, St. Charles, who fell off the vehicle as the vehicle was rounding a curve at a high rate of speed.

Moran was injured seriously and was transported by the Staff for Life helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia.

The patrol reported neither the driver nor the passenger wore a safety helmet.
