Hurt, Steinbeck’s styles ‘jive pretty good’ in doubles

Fulton boys’ head tennis coach Louis Schnoebelen does not have a complicated process when it comes to picking partners for the Hornets’ doubles teams.

In fact, Schnoebelen prefers to hand off on that decision.

“I usually defer to the players and ask them,” Schnoebelen said Wednesday afternoon. “It makes it easy, … so it’s not rocket science. Mostly it has to do with temperament, more than anything.”

Fulton juniors Josh Hurt and Trevor Steinbeck chose each other as partners entering the 2012 season and quickly emerged as the Hornets’ No. 1 doubles team. The collaboration has clearly worked, with Hurt and Steinbeck set to compete in the Class 1 state doubles tournament starting today at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
