Mokane The South Callaway Bulldogs left the potential first run at third base after the top half of the first inning. In fact, they stranded two other possible runs out there as well.
South Callaway’s first and best chance to break open Monday’s Class 2 sectional game against the Brentwood Eagles, it seemed, hadn’t gone the way it hoped.
“It would have been nice to jump on them early,” Bulldogs senior designated hitter Mitchell Williams said. “But I guess we ended up doing it anyway.”
South Callaway erupted for six runs in the second inning and five more in the fourth, comfortably putting Brentwood away 11-0 in five innings. With the convincing win, the Bulldogs (18-5) advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 1994.
