County officials to withhold payment until vehicle location system fixed

Callaway County and the Callaway County Sheriff's Office still owe Geo-Comm $37,426 for their portions of a contract to install an AVL (automated vehicle location) system purchased in 2011, but officials say they aren't paying until the company fixes problems that have plagued the program since its installation almost a year ago.

"We've paid enough to get it started; we're not paying more until we see results," said Western District Commissioner Doc Kritzer. "Our arguing point is, you lose your leverage when you pay them. When it's finished and we're satisfied that it's working, we'll be happy to pay.

"I'm tired of paying up-front for software, and then companies not following through with (getting it up and running)."
