Sheriff, Patrol complete Simpson report

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office and Missouri Highway Patrol Troop F have completed their joint investigation into the events surrounding the death of Timothy Simpson, the 34-year-old Williamsburg man shot in a standoff with police at Green Meadows Trailer Park in April.

The report now sits in the county prosecuting attorney's office, pending further review. Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wilson will then decide if any crime has been committed on behalf of the officers and whether a case should continue, though Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane believes the evidence falls in favor of the police.

"Right now it was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner, but we knew it would be, that says somebody died at somebody else's hands," said Crane. "The determination is whether it was justified or unjustified. Right now from the view of our standpoint, from the highway patrol and ours, we believe it's a justified shooting."
