For all the runs that North Callaway and Fulton put up in the first two rounds of the 18th-annual Fulton Tournament, Saturday’s championship game between the two teams became a battle between the two starters.
Thunderbirds senior pitcher Zach Lavy ended up getting the better of his counterpart, Hornets senior Jake Matthews. Lavy allowed just an unearned run in six innings of work, pushing the Thunderbirds past the Hornets 2-1 for the tournament title at the high school athletic complex.
