Fulton Police and members of he MUSTANG Task Force Thursday morning raided a residence at 117 S. Ravine St. and arrested Clifton J. Ivory, 30, for possession of marijuana.

Armed with a search warrant, officers conducted a search of the property at 5:30 a.m. and then arrested Ivory for possession of marijuana.

While serving the search warrant, Police reported an aggressive pitbull dog attacked officers. The dog was shot and killed by police.

One neighbor, Michael Dunavant, is reported to have said he was awakened by gun shots. He went outside and saw two police officers shooting at the dog. The pitbull ran around the house to the back porch where he said an officer shot and killed the dog with a shotgun.

Two smaller pitbull dogs were locked in cages in the back of the house but one of the reportedly got out during the incident.

Lt. Andre Cook of Fulton Police said Friday both of the two smaller dogs were taken to the Fulton Animal Shelter and are still there.

Another neighbor, Marie Dishman, is reported as saying the dog shot by police was a good dog but it got off her chain frequently. Dishman said in the past she has allowed her daughter to pet the dog.

Fulton Police Chief Steve Myers said the dog that was shot was attacking police officers and had to be shot.

Myers said no further investigation of the shooting incident is warranted.

“Let’s not lose sight of the importance of getting drugs out of the community,” Myers said.

The police chief said no one was injured during the incident.

Based on the information in the story, it seems outrageous a dog had to be killed. Almost any dog will act in an aggressive manner (barking, etc.) if strangers invade their home. Surely officers could be prepared with some type of training and/or tranquilizers for these situations. At least the raid wasn't done in error, as has been the case in other situations just like this across the country. I would hate to see a dog killed for nothing. Of course, no further investigation is needed.

After reading more about the story on KOMU, the actions of officers in this case are beyond outrageous. Surely some sort of legal action can be taken.

DOGS DIDN'T HAVE TO BE SHOT!!!!

Myers said no further investigation of the shooting incident is warranted.

“Let’s not lose sight of the importance of getting drugs out of the community,” Myers said.

THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT STATEMENT IS THAT SUSPECT WAS RELEASED WITH NO CHARGES FILED THEREFORE THE STATEMENT IS NULL AND VOID WITHOUT THE FILING OF CHARGES! LT COOK JUST NEEDED TO GET HIS FIX AND THAT WAS A WAY TO DO IT! FPD IS ONE OF THE MOST CROOKED AGENCIES OUT THERE.

LET ME RUN UP IN ONE OF THE OFFICERS HOUSES AND FIND THE GREEN THAT THEY HAVE STASHED AND THEN SHOOT THEY DOGS AND PUT THEY PUPPIES TO SLEEP.

These officers were just doing their jobs when they got attacked by a dog. Of course the dog will defend it's home when what the dog sees as attackers entered the property. But what are the cops supposed to do? They are already concerned about being shot by a drug dealer but they should have to be nice to the dogs? it's a freaking dog that was killed swiftly and humanely who cares? I can't believe there is so much outrage over the treatment of a dog who was attacking a police officer. If a human being attacked a police officer and got shot no one would care.

Read the KOMU article on this. It does not sound as if the dog was attacking officers, or that it was killed humanely: komu.com/news/update-fulton-dog-died-man-arrested-in-a-drug-search/

  • I agree with others, please read the FULL article on KOMU, before jumping to conclusions that the officer's were being attacked. They shot this dog multiple times, and they maced a puppy that was in a cage, and was going to shoot a puppy that was in a cage. What on earth were the puppies doing?

According to the KOMU article the Fulton PD "became aware Ivory's pet pitbull. The police released one resident of the house to take control and lock up the dog. The resident wanted to lock the dog up in its kennel in the basement, but police wanted the dog outside." This sounds like the FPD wanted the dog outside so they could shoot it. Chief Meyers needs to send these poor shooting officers to shooting classes before they get hurt in a shoot out with someone that shoots back. Just picture the cops running around your neighbor's house shooting at the neighbor's dog until they kill it. I'm sure everyone in Mr. Ivory's neighborhood feels much safer knowing that those that "Serve and Protect" have done such a bang up job. Can someone explain why the puppies have to be killed?

The puppies should at least have a chance to be placed in homes.

When the police do something wrong where do ya go without fear of reprisal?

When are the people of Fulton and Callaway County going to wake up and realize that the police departments work for the people. Let them know we won't take this kind of behaviour from the departments, county or city. Let them know the killing of our people or animals will not be tolerated any more. Stand up people. Go to the State governing commisions, go to the attorney general. No stupid charge or investigation is worth putting lives of people or animals in jeopardy! High speed chases over a beer, a little marijuana or breaking into peoples houses for stupid misdemeanors gives the Fulton Gestapo a thrill and front page features but puts all our citizens in harms way! No one is safe with out of control policing departments! Isn't Mr. Simpsons death and now these dogs enough to get you people on your feet?

Here is a story of a Pitbull saving a women's life from a train. Not many other breeds would do this. now.msn.com/now/0509-dog-saves-owner.aspx

I know him. I know the details. I know many facts that you don't; for example, did you know there wasn't a warrant? Did you know the dog didn't attack, but was just barking, as any dog will do when a bunch of armed Barney's come barging into your house? The FPD is full of punks, much like the Columbia PD. All this for a roach. Cowards. Stop me if you like FPD, but be prepared for someone bigger, badder, and meaner than you will ever be.

Yes, you know this because you were in the house with them as it happened. As for the whole bigger and badder, its amazing how tough someone can be when they are behind a computer screen.

Just have to say its a sad story. I don't believe animals should have the same rights as people, but I do believe people should be held responsible for their actions and have a sense of right and wrong. Especially if they are in a position of authority.
