Part-way through a more than $240,000 renovation job, the old brick building at 503 Truman Rd. is hardly recognizable as home to the Callaway Electric Cooperative. What is instead slowly but surely forming is the new home to Fulton's finest.

The upcoming home to the Fulton Police Department's new station is coming along ahead of schedule. Though there is still no official target date for completion, the building now boasts several new features, including sturdy, concrete holding rooms.

FPD Chief Steve Myers said he and the rest of the police department are excited for the new building, citing it will be more secure and spacious than their current headquarters, at 510 Market St.

The step up in security will be evident when visitors first walk in the front door - the much-larger foyer is scheduled to be bulletproofed within the coming weeks."

"Our current lobby is not secure," said Myers. "This one will have a pass-through window, and will be much more safe for our staff."

The new building also holds six freshly-installed holding rooms, as well as a separate juvenile holding area. Walled off with concrete and an inches-thick sturdy metal door, these rooms are far more secure and durable than the current drywall rooms being used for this purpose at the present station.
