Snuggerud, No. 1 Hope sink Blue Jays

— Westminster College freshman guard Verdis Lee was succinct in his acknowledgement.

“That’s a helluva game,” Lee said as he examined Nate Snuggerud’s stat line in the box score at the postgame press conference.

The Blue Jays badgered No. 1-ranked Hope College for the opening 15 minutes of their first-round game in the NCAA Division III men’s national tournament, making the Flying Dutchmen fidget before their home fans at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Hope’s 6-foot-5, 225-pound junior forward connected for a career-high 37 points — 25 coming in the second half — and the Flying Dutchmen eventually established control in their 79-65 victory over Westminster on Friday night.
