The Callaway County Humane Society has brought together county officials, veterinarians and businesses to help spread awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering.
This week, the Callaway County Commission will issue a proclamation declaring March as Spay/Neuter month in Callaway. During March, a number of local vets and pet-related businesses will be offering incentives to encourage area residents to have their pets spayed or neutered.
Sandy Corbet, president of the Callaway Humane Society, said the group contacted all of the vets in the county and secured agreements from them to give a percentage discount — the amounts vary — for spay and neuter services performed in March. The Humane Society will keep track of the pet owners who make appointments for the discount, and at the end of the month will hold two drawings — one for a cat owner and one for a dog owner.
