Two current Democratic Callaway County office holders did not file for re-election Tuesday on the first day of filing for county and state offices.

Callaway County Treasurer Marsha Chism said she plans to retire and Callaway County Eastern District Commissioner Gabe Craighead said he does not plan to seek re-election.

Four other incumbent Callaway County office holders whose terms expire this year filed Tuesday for re-election with the Callaway County Clerk's office.

The four current office holders filing for re-election are Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane, a Democrat; Callaway County Assessor Dan Roe, a Democrat; Callaway County Public Administrator Karen Digh Allen, a Democrat; and Callaway County Western District Commissioner Doc Kritzer, a Republican. None of them was opposed on the first day of filing for county and state offices, which ends March 27.

Bryant Liddle filed as a Democratic candidate for the Eastern District Commissioner's office now held by Craighead.

The lone general election race to develop so far is the contest for the county treasurer's office that is being vacated by the pending retirement of Chism when her term in office is completed at the end of this year. Chism served seven terms and was first elected as county treasurer in 1984 after Irene Glascock retired as treasurer.

Filing for the office of county treasurer Tuesday was Debbie Zerr, who has been working in the treasurer's office for the last eight years. Zerr is a Republican candidate for treasurer.

Filing as a Democratic candidate for Callaway County treasurer is Fulton attorney Tim Brady. This is Brady's second try for county public office. Two years ago he was an unsuccessful primary election candidate for Callaway County clerk.
