Lady Owls surge into AMC semifinals with strong win Remain at home to face Williams Baptist on Friday night

The William Woods University Lady Owls put Missouri Baptist University in a defensive vice, squeezing the Lady Spartans out of the American Midwest Conference women’s postseason tournament.

Sophomore guard Katie Scherder scored a game-high 12 points and No. 2 seed William Woods limited No. 7 Missouri Baptist to a feeble 24-percent shooting effort in Wednesday night’s 63-41 quarterfinal romp at Anderson Arena.

With the emphatic victory, the Lady Owls (21-9) — winners of three straight — will remain at home for an AMC semifinal against No. 3 seed Williams Baptist (Ark.) College at 7 p.m. Friday. Williams Baptist (17-9) advanced by outlasting No. 6 Harris-Stowe State University 90-87 in double-overtime Wednesday night.
