Fulton's 5-through-9-year-olds will have a chance this July to learn about history and become published artists, thanks to a new day camp with the National Churchill Museum.
The museum will host its first Day Camp for Kids. 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 11-12. Campers will get to explore the museum's current large exhibit, Our Lives, Our Stories: America's Greatest Generation, to learn about what it was like growing up in the "30s-'60s. They will then participate in hands-on arts and crafts activities inspired by the exhibit, including artwork that will hang in the exhibit itself.
Museum education and public programs coordinator Mandy Plybon said that if their first camp went well, they would like to make it a recurring, possibly longer event every summer.
"We really wanted to create a program geared towards younger kids, said Plybon. "In general, our educational programs start at fourth grade, so we haven't really had anything for younger kids. We thought the day camp would be a perfect opportunity for them to experience the museum."
The two-day camp costs $25, which covers supplies, lunch and afternoon snacks. In addition to spending the day making crafts and having their work displayed in the museum, Plybon said the camp would allow kids to learn about the WWII generation and about museum-going as a whole.
