Callaway County has a Miss Callaway, Junior Miss Callaway and - for the first time - a Mini Miss Callaway County.

Laney Kaskus of Mokane, Emily Montgomery of Auxvasse and Allison Sims of Hatton received the respective honors Saturday at the Miss Callaway Pageant during the 2012 Fulton Street Fair.

Kaskus, 17, daughter of Pat and Marilyn Bartley of Mokane and Mark Kaskus of Fulton, said it felt great to be crowned the county's queen.

"It's a good feeling," she said. "I'm very competitive, so winning is wonderful."

Kaskus only faced one person in her competition for Miss Callaway 2012, but it was one she's known all her life - her sister, Savannah Kaskus.

Laney Kaskus said having her sister there throughout the competition was an overall positive experience for her.

"I liked competing with her," said Kaskus. "I feel bad, because I thought she did better so she should have won, but having her there to hold my hand (when the winners were announced) was great."
