Relay for Life leader: Still time to help

Even with the 2012 Relay For Life of Callaway County only a week away, event chairperson Linda Boshers said it is not too late for area residents to get involved in the fight against cancer.

As of Friday there were approximately 150 individuals on 17 teams - 31 teams participated last year - signed up for the relay, which kicks off at 6 p.m. on June 22 at the Missouri School for the Deaf track. Boshers would love to have some last-minute teams sign up over the next six days.

"It's never too late. You can always put together a team, come to the event and do fundraising at the relay," Boshers said.

If putting together a team seems too intimidating, she said there are other ways to help as well.

"People can come show up in the afternoon - we can always use volunteers to help get us set up, and then to help tear down and clean up in the morning," Boshers said. "We can never have too many volunteers and there's always enough to keep people busy."

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
