The Callaway Bank's "mule" dominated the competition at this year's Callaway Cup Mule Derby, marking their first win in several years.

The bank also earned the top spot in the following SERVE, Inc. fundraiser race, avoiding a $1,000 "loser's fee" and beating out friendly rivals Ovid Bell Press and Moser's Supermarket.

"It's been a few years, but we won them both," said Mike Boulware of the bank. "It's funny how one mule will win won year or one race, and then another the next."

Other competitors in the Callaway Cup included the City of Fulton and Callaway Community Hospital. As for what made their slick silver machine a winner, Boulware kept their design secrets under tight wraps.

"That's kind of a personal question, but I will say this: We don't take it lightly."
