Demetriess Devon Walker, 20, was arrested after getting caught fleeing the scene of an attempted purse snatching at the Fulton Wal-Mart.

According to an FPD press release, officers responded to the call at approximately 11:40 a.m. As they arrived on scene, they spotted a vehicle matching the license number and description given in connection with the incident and attempted to stop Walker at the intersection of Tenth and Bluff streets.

Walker - the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle - led police on a short pursuit that included driving in an active construction zone before exiting his vehicle in the area of Ninth Street and Westminster Avenue. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

Maj. Roger Rice, assistant chief of the FPD, said Walker faces charges of stealing, resisting arrest, careless and imprudent driving, driving while revoked and property damage in connection to the incident.

Walker had already been taken to the Callaway County Jail on $25,000 bond when Rice said the FPD was contacted by the Columbia Police Department.

"He was wanted for driving the car that was involved in a shooting on Memorial Day - they've been looking for him," Rice said.

A search on Missouri CaseNet shows a warrant issued Friday for Walker's arrest for felony discharge/shooting of a firearm at or from a motor vehicle/shooting at a person, motor vehicle or building/habitable structure. Bond for those charges was set at $50,000.

Walker was arrested on those charges Friday afternoon and is being held on a total bond of $75,000.

Messages with the Columbia Police Department were not immediately returned.

Rice said the Fulton Police Department also is looking for the victim of the alleged purse snatching.

"The woman at Wal-Mart notified security and then left before we got there," Rice said. "We need to talk to her, get a statement."
