Holts Summit theater to close

The owners of the Summit Plaza Theater in Holts Summit have confirmed the theater will be closing its doors.

A posting on the theater's Facebook page shows the theater will close Aug. 19.

Owners Mike and Heidi Frese reopened the theater in late 2006 after it had been closed for more than a year.

"We have done well with the theater, operating longer and with more success than previous operators in recent history," the Freses said on Facebook. "We have no lack of customers or shortage of business. It is simply timing."

In May 2010, the theater purchased equipment that allowed them to show 3-D movies.

"The upcoming transition to digital projection would require both a significant financial investment and a legal commitment to operate in this building for several years," the Freses said on Facebook. "We have had ongoing issues with both the run-down facility and the management here, so staying put was not our first choice."
