Missouri sets record year in unclaimed property returns

According to state treasurer Clint Zweifel's office, Missouri has returned a record amount of lost property to Missourians this year.

Zweifel said the unclaimed property division returned $38.2 million worth of unclaimed non-real estate assets, including cash, checks, stocks, dividends and safe deposit boxes, to individual and group account holders during state fiscal year 2012, which ended Saturday.

In an ad published in the June 28 edition of the Fulton Sun by the state treasurer, approximately 500 individuals, businesses or organizations were owed unclaimed property in Callaway County.
